Jochen Proehl

Jochen Proehl was born in 1958 in Lübeck, Germany,
and spent his childhood and teenage years in Istanbul.
After graduating from high school in Lübeck, he studied
painting at the HdK (now UdK Berlin) in Berlin. After completing
his art education, he lived in Berlin for over 20 years and was
represented in many exhibitions abroad. He has had numerous
solo exhibitions in Germany and Istanbul. Most recently,
Proehl presented a comprehensive exhibition of his new
large-format photographic works at the Milli Re Art Gallery
last year, and last November the C.A.M. Gallery opened LONG
EXPOSURE, an exhibition of Proehl’s large-scale paintings.
He was awarded Artist in Residence scholarships by the
State of Schleswig-Holstein and the Kulturfonds Foundation
(both in Germany). He lectured as a DAAD visiting associate
professor at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts and then
as a lecturer at Işık and Okan Universities. Jochen Proehl has
been a faculty member at Bahçeşehir University, Faculty of
Communication for more than 10 years.
